Dear friend,
I have watched this video more times than I can count, and it undoes me every single time. Those little voices. The clapping. The teacher calling out, “Who are the children in Christ?” and a whole classroom answering without a moment of doubt.
Every one of those children has a mother or a caregiver working in unbelievably hard circumstances to provide for them. School fees on almost nothing. Little to no health care, in one of the hardest countries in the world to raise a child. And still those mamas send their little ones to school to learn the Word of God and sing hallelujah at the top of their lungs.
Next January, I’m taking a team of women to Kajo Keji to serve these children and the women who raise them. It is Empower One’s first Women’s & Children’s Ministry trip, and I believe with my whole heart that God has been stirring it up for such a time as this. Think vacation Bible school under a South Sudanese sky. We will teach Bible stories and sing until our voices give out. We will sit with mothers, join home visits, and walk neighborhoods alongside the local women’s ministry and college ministry who love this community day in and day out. We get to encourage them too. And when we fly home, they will have a plan they can run again and again, long after our footprints fade.
I believe God is putting this team together right now, name by name. I don’t want to do this without you. When I picture standing in that classroom, hearing those voices in person, I picture you there, standing with an incredible group of women from the US!
