Do you ever sit in church and feel there’s something more out there for you?
I have a radical solution for you.
Say yes to that opportunity.
The one that makes you uncomfortable, but somewhere inside you, you’re also drawn to it. It will probably cost you time, or money, or both.
Who knows? You may end up meeting a white Kenyan who has pet chimpanzees, a snake venom business, can underwater weld, and gives a goat a cigarette every day at 5 p.m. because he got it hooked on nicotine?
I did. That’s why I keep telling you God is fun.
We’re frustrated in our churches, and God is ready to give us His entire kingdom.
We’re all afraid to take leaps with God. Me included.
“And He said to them, “Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.”
Here’s what I think after 20 years.
I’m not formally trained. I wasn’t a particularly good student. I wasn’t on track for the c-suite in the marketplace. Since these photos were taken in August 2006, I’ve only become more aware of my shortcomings.
And yet, God has made me useful.
In the book link at the bottom, I held my ground on the subtitle, “How a Flawed Guy Backed Into Starting Churches in South Sudan, Sudan, and East Africa.” They didn’t like the word flawed. To me, it was essential.
What’s my point?
Turns out, the stories God tells us in scripture are true:
— Abraham starting walking to an unknown place.
— That guy with a screw loose built a giant boat on perfectly dry land.
— Rahab worked with the spies.
— He may have sunk, but Peter did step out of the boat.
For me, I got to meet David Kaya and be his helper for two decades.
While God desires excellence and uses the gifted, he also seems to have a soft spot for the spiritual limp walker who makes herself or himself available.
God has done some really great things with our whole team through the years. We’ll celebrate what God–alone–has done over these 20 years this fall.
